Barzona  -  The breed for busy people.

Picture
That is our motto at Paradise Farms.  Barzonas are a composite breed, developed in Arizona on the Bard Ranch for specific traits that would make the breed's survivability turn into profits.  Barzonas can range on sparse forage and rough ground, adapt to any climate, and still bring in a calf every year.  We as a family farm have had to pull less than 10 calves in almost 10 years. We did have several years in a row that we didn't pull any.

Most of our cattle are registered Barzona cattle, and we strive to keep many of the original characteristics in our seedstock.  We also have a few Herefords around and keep some of the crossbred heifers, as this cross gives us the BEST commercial cows.  We run about 75 head of cows on 4 pastures, and feed the calves from weaning until slaughter.  We feed ground ear corn to background calves, progress them to half ground half cracked corn until they hit the finishing lot where they recieve mostly cracked corn.  We rarely have any trouble reaching minimum carcass weights and grade high.

2011 Seedstock Calves

Every year, we offer our weaned feeder calves for sale to any one who would like to try the Barzona breed as a seedstock choice in their herds.  We price the calves according to current market price, and always encourage our buyers to hand pick their choices from the entire group.
These calves are born mostly in April and May so we don't risk any stress of late winter weather, and weaned at the end of October.

These top 3 are bull calves, with the pictures below being several of the heifers that would cooperate.

Active Paradise Farms Sires

Picture
The headshot at the top is Willy, a 2001 model bull.  He is our oldest active bull, and has produced some of our best seedstock.

This is Ira, a 2006 model.  This bull is quickly becoming our favorite.

The second bull down is 806.  A 2007 model.  He is the same size as Ira already, and produces small calves that are easy on heifers.

The last bull is Stubby, another 2007 model.  This bull produces larger calves, and doesn't cross well with first calf heifers, but produces wonderful stock on older cows.
